MONSTER! #30 is the better part of 164 pages thick, and just as chock-a-block with monstrous goodness as ever. As for the contents, it's the usual unusual mash-up of more modern and vintage monster material; a tasty smorgasbord/cornucopia of the old, the new and the not-quite-so-old-or-new. As per our hunky three-eyed cover boy (the title critter from his newest movie TRICLOPS!), we've got lashings of loving reportage on the DIY-with-TLC creature features of regional American filmmaker Brett Piper, one of whose many specialties in practical special effects is stop-motion animation (forget CGI!). In addition, we have an in-depth essay on the early works of David Cronenberg, with an especial focus on his still-disturbingly-effective 1979 "monster kid" shocker THE BROOD. Also in this issue, by way of a moving and touching Special Tribute/Remembrance by someone who knew him, we pay our last respects to the much-loved and sadly recently late Vince Rotolo, "King of the Monster Podcasters" and a MonsterBash regular who shall be sorely missed. We've also got the second and final part of our feature article "Bathed in Blood", covering the cinematic excesses of notorious vampiristic aristocrat Countess Elizabeth Báthory. In addition to all this, we've got oodles of creature feature reviews and eye-catching original artwork besides. Just for the record, our roster of talent for MONSTER! #30 is: Stephen D. Sullivan, Eric Messina, Michael Hauss, Dennis Capicik, Christos Mouroukis, Stephen R. Bissette, C. Michael Hall, Andy Ross, Martín Núñez, Kinshuk Gaur, Salvatore Tarantola, Tony Strauss, Brian Harris, Steve Fenton, and Tim Paxton. Detailed video availability (most of it correct, as per usual, we hope!) rounds things out. Enjoy!

Every film fan experiences a seemingly incalculable number of images during their cinematic pursuits. While some walk, run, or skip happily through film fandom, the terminally nostalgic Richard Glenn Schmidt sleepily stumbles through the superabundance of his filmic obsessions in an attempt to embrace them all. Contained within these pages are his musings on the utterly perverse films of Jess Franco, the purple cinema of Prince, the peculiar insanity of the films of 1976, the peregrine world of Asian horror, and much, much more! Somewhere between the waking world and the flickering dream of cinema, walks the Cinema Somnambulist. It's like the old saying goes, "every blogger has his day".

This book is an ambitious, exhaustive and utterly obsessive attempt to make sense of over a century of exploitation & cult cinema, and how that has interacted with the mainstream. Arnold Schwarzenegger went from being 'Hercules in New York' to Governor of the wealthiest U.S. State! Ronald Reagan once starred alongside Bozo the Chimp before he became the ruler of the free world. Millions flock to see the blockbuster likes of 'The Avengers' and 'The Dark Knight Rises', sophisticated and ridiculously expensive upgrades of low-budget movies and serials once considered strictly for comic-reading kids. 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' stormed the arthouses and 'Kill Bill' was an unlikley smash around the world, but neither improved on more obscure yet amazing Hong Kong and Taiwanese wuxia and kung fu movies, and who would settle for dull Uma Thurman when you could have Meiko Kaji as 'Lady Snowblood'?

Finn Jansen isn’t broken. Yes, he lost his mother. Yes, his dad and brother had their issues. Yet none of it was about Finn, and he hates that everyone sees him as broken. But Piper Johnson, a girl he barely knows, suspects there’s more to Finn. Unfortunately, Finn is her sister’s best friend, and her sister is jealous, so Piper has to watch Finn from afar through middle and high school, rarely able to participate in his life. Worse, she’s smart and moves ahead in school, so she can’t participate in anyone’s life. Loneliness becomes the only sure thing in her world. But Finn Jansen is indeed broken, and God wants to fix him, which means events fall into place that stretch Finn to his breaking point and beyond. He finds himself a foster child living next door to his best friend, but even the blessings there can’t quiet the voice inside that tells him he’s a monster, that his family’s hardships are his fault and he will never be worthy of love. Piper is the only one who can bring Finn around, and he’s the only one who can see her true value and cure her desperate loneliness. Through a series of painful events, God pushes them together toward a situation where each must put him or herself aside and look out for someone else. Follow the Firefly is book three in the Terry’s Garden series, stories about a love that touches generations and the garden where God heals broken hearts.
